Diwali Painting
A gouache and gold on paper this work by nainsukh a master of the pahari school of painting uses what is clearly diwali like festivity to ponder over the play of dark and light the elaborate palace architecture and the dynamics between those present.
Diwali painting. A tirthankara and the eight auspicious symbols page from a dispersed kalpa sutra jain book of ritu painting. People buying new clothes gifts looking longingly at sweets made fresh perhaps for the first time in the year painting their little hovels scrounging the malls for cheap sales regaling in an imagined time of plenty a promise of the ephemeral and the seasonal good days. There was this distinct smell of money in the air. Original diwali clay lamp painting is hand painted.
This painting was part of my oiltober series where i aimed to finish a painting in a day.
